WEBSITE

Brods and Sis,

Nag try akong bilhin from the registry yung name natin pero masyadong malaki ang asking price just for our name na we paid to be registered. Para lang siyang site na nag oopen sa ibat ibang pages (you can just go to the BLOG and then go the site that you want).

For the last 2 yrs I was asking for input pero halos wala akong natangap, mabibilang mo sa daliri ang nag respond. Yung lang update nang birthdays sa roster, it took us 2 yrs and still hindi pa rin sumagot ang iba(were are still missing 4 members; ace lino coloma, johana bayucan, rainiel genelsea, and lito jay macaraig) and that was just asking for the birthdays, address, telephone.

It was made at that time as a temporary site dahil nga in a few weeks mawawala na ang mediciomnesduciens.com sa web. Naka attach doon ang album natin sa FLICKR, which I am paying for the group every year para maka ulpoad tayo ng lahat ng pictures natin. Yet, since it was made 2 yrs ago, only a few members loaded pictures on it.

Yung mga existing sites ng MEDICUS, was made separately by different members from different batches on different years.
This was followed by geocities that I tried to build pero di ko nagawang ma up. (Geocities will now disappear this coming October, as yahoo will shut geocities forever).

Sa ngayon we are not paying for anything. Kung may kulang sa BLOG para gawing portal then say so and if possible gagawin at idadagdag. Limitado lang ang pwedeng gawin sa BLOG. We are limited to the allowed templates, we cannnot re-design the templates. So far incorporated sa blog ang chat box sa bottom part ng page, links of all the sites sa side bar, flickr for the depository ng pictures (unlimited), slide for the guest book, photobucket for the slide presentation and uploadable post, videos from youtube, message box and shout box on the side and other RSS links that we have interest on. Meron din doon na address na I tried to make as current as possible. Ito ay naka incorporate sa Gmail ng group (kailangan ng password at sign in name to see). Forumer was added per request kay Gerald. Dahil we may have discussions na ayaw nating makita ng iba. Sa ngayon I am trying to incorporate sites ng mga brods and sis (like their personal blogs or business at clinics sites) para nga maging isang one stop shop for MEDICUS members.

As for security ng site, noong unang ginawa ang yahoogroup open siya sa public at anyone can become a member. Robin changed that and made it moderated para nga hindi mapasok ng iba (kasi nga may nag aalok na ng aircon sa atin doon at one time, ngayon nag request na naman na pumasok at mag aalok ulit yata ng aircon pero na block na ng moderator). Ngayon each application ay kailangan ang approval from the moderator this is after asking their name, batch, at proof na brod or sis natin sila.

If we are going to design our site with our name and inputs, who is going to maintain it or update it? Do you think we can incorporate all of these sa possibleng website na yun?. Kung mag ba-bayad tayo ulit ng site, can we maintain paying for it? Dahil ang style diyan, mababa sa 1st year (as low as 5$ sa GOdaddy.com) then going higher every year. Meron namang nag aabang kung mag e-expire na ang registry at kukunin nila (snipping) at kailangan mong bilhin afterwards sa kanila at a much higher price (usually bidding).

It will be good using our own name, and having our own site and maintaing our site the way we wanted it to be. I dream of that one day, and I have a lot of ideas for the site, but can we sustain it? Remember it will cost us a lot of money every year adding to our budget needs.

Friendster Account Group Description

The following is the Group Description of MEDICI OMNES DUCIENS on the friendster group account written and started by DOC_NANCS.

In 1982, the MCU-FDTMF College of Medicine was among the five leading medical institutions in the Philippines. The medical school was the training ground for young aspiring medical students from around the archipelago. The best professors and educators from the different fields of specialties of medicine were there to teach the young minds the essentials of medical education and practice. They were tasked to develop the know-how and skills necessary for a medical student to be able to diagnose and treat their ailing patients. They were the ones assigned to form the brains and spinal cord of the developing students that were all eager to learn and be future medical practitioners.

Although the atmosphere for learning was conducive for the students at that time, a general feeling of emptiness was palpable among the student populace. They were absorbed with what they thought was what they all needed to do, which were go to school listen to the lectures and read up on the topics assigned to them. There was nary an organized group that could cater to the need for the medical students to be exposed to real life situations where they will be able to apply what they have learned in the academy of medicine. There was no one assisting them on how to deal with people of the community that they were supposed to be working hard for. The medical school was sorely missing a subject that would teach them how to have a compassionate heart not only for their patients inside the hospital but for the community as well.

Then 13 students from the batch of 1984 came up with the idea of a medical fraternity, whose vision was to be a channel for everyone who needs medical attention and assistance. Their supreme objectives of dedication, service, and brotherhood were the moving force that guided every one towards a common goal of being able to serve their fellowmen regardless of economic status, politics or religion. Thus came about MEDICI OMNES DUCIENS the forerunner and trendsetter of all medical fraternities in the university.

After 24 years, this fraternity-sorority has been the heart of the college of medicine, helping the school produce the most rounded medical graduates, equipping them with not only the mind but the heart and compassion for their patients in the hospital as well as the community. MEDICUS lives and the fire within every member's heart continue to burn.

We love MEDICUS!

Long live MEDICUS!

Welcome to MEDICUS online!

Medicus Internet History

In the late 90's when the Internet is just coming in its age. Ceasar Dayahan of PRIMA DUCIENS started an email at hotmail for Medicus. Few knew about it and only the "old timers" knew about sign in name and the password. So if you wanted to reach any brod or sis, there is not an existing place that you can look or search (email address would not come up on search parameters). I have tried to search for Medicus or Medici Omnes Duciens but nothing comes up on the Internet, we do not exist in the Eworld.

In 2000, a lot of our brothers and sisters were going to different places of the world and there is no way of reaching each other (I found it out myself). It is then that a yahoogroup at geocities was made and put up so that when you search, you will see something on the Internet to hopefully reach your brods and sis. One by one members found it and register. Since this site was working it was easily filled with pictures, and then there is not enough space (only 3 MB allowed) to put what we want to put in. The only way we can increase our memory availability is to pay, which we cannot afford. It was then that an MSN group account was created and then added as a secondary site.

In October 1, 2001 a website for Medici Omnes Duciens was started at yahoo geocities. The site was upped by the developer and was very impressive (all red). Thanks to a very creative brod who spent a long time putting it up. This site was then maintained by Medicus for Medicus, but our brod who was maintaining the site become so busy with his studies (women, beer) at the time (It is Robin BACOLOR who did it) that there is no time to update it. The site was neglected for a while because no one was able to update the site, not for lack of wanting but because nobody knows how.

Here is what Robin had to say while making the geocities site:
"naaalala ko dati 3rd year ako nyan sa med school (2001), ang gamit ko dati e dial up (56 kbps) minsan nga 32 lang na speed... kaya dinidiskartehan ko madaling araw para wala kang kaagaw sa linya... Dati yan 30-40 web pages tsaka MADUGO sobra... binawasan ko na, ang idea ko lang naman e malagay ang medicus sa google, or yahoo search engine... tsaka ma-i-link natin yung email groups..."

In 2005 members clamor for our own website with our own domain name. Medici Omnes Duciens Website was born, based in the Philippines. This is our main site and mainly used as a bulletin board, some properties of the site is continually added to adapt it to our needs. Unfortunately this main website disappeared late of 2007, MEDICUS lost its Ebulletin board. Since loosing our bulletin board, we lost a vital place of exchange between members. The Alumni during the 25th Anniversary celebration decided to have another forum started, and our Brod William Gerard Vergel de Dios search and established a new Medici Omnes Duciens Forum (this time it is free, with no danger of expiration).

Early of 2007 a Friendster account was made by our sis Maria Isabel LAGRIMAS of CONSEGUENZE FIDA batch, and lately I saw a Medici Omnes Duciens group at friendster in which the listed owner is doc_nancs. I could not see the profile but in my old emails, doc_nancs was Harold Nanquil.

All the old sites were still working, except for the medici omnes duciens website that went offline sometime in November of 2007, because our domain name expires (i tried to renew it but the registry would not allow me). Pictures can still be seen on the yahoo and MSN groups sites. Our yahoo group is in its 7Th year and still used for mass mailing to members, although a lot of the members were bouncing (members please update your emails, to members not yet a member of the yahoogroup, you can use the yahoo group button on the side bar and put your email address on it). You can access the sites on the links in this blog, located on the Medicus Links side bar.

Now we have a blog that was made after several bottles of beer and wine. Yes, we have our old sites and the main site before it disappears but some perceived this as static and only visits once in a while to leave a message, not an interacting site that we can explore and control ourselves. On this Blog, anyone who wanted to post something is very much welcome to do so, it was integrated and hooked to all our sites (yahoogroups, msngroup, friendster, flickr, youTube, pbbforumer, etc...). We have videos from youTube, photo stream from Fickr, link to a health blog, shoutout, etc.. Anything under the sun that can, in one way or another adds or contribute to Medicus and its members, and that even includes our own practical jokes. Just send an email to me and I will send the log in name and password. This Blog is dynamic for it is reshaping itself related to our needs by us, and hopefully utilized by members to its full capability.

i love medicus

Message from a founder: MEDICUS website

It was the start of another school year. Another beginning that have brought a tinge of fears and challenge to a third year medical student's heart. He was glad to be finally there, the seemingly last year of hard school work. But as he looked back, he felt that there must have been more to it than this new white V-neck uniform and another pile of books to read.

It was a time when students bore the weight of a certain identity, looking in pride and confidence. Was it enough to have gained the status of a Medical Student or was there more to this so - called symbol of excellence? Being and purpose, these were what was in everybody's mind that first a group of young hopefuls committed themselves to a cause, we now call - MEDICI OMNES DUCIENS.

The fraternity's existence was sparkled by a need to redirect the campus student's evolving picture of Men of Medicine. The objective of his labor had to be clear to him, to comprehend his vital essence in college and his eventual responsibilities as a physician. The formula was simple and relevant - DEDICATION, SERVICE AND BROTHERHOOD: three pillars that withstood time since that night in August of 1982.

It has been said " A man realizes how tall he is, when he needs the call to stand up". Our Fraternity and Sorority - call you today in the very same spirit it had been founded on. To this day, MEDICI OMNES DUCIENS, Has grown from dreams of thirteen men to a reality of more than 400 members. And yet the formula has remained the same since that feeling of every medical student to meet the challenge of his time and the needs of his people still perpetuate to this day.

MEDICUS distinguished and elevated pride from that which evolves from confidence and impels men and women to do their best. The greatest insult foisted on any man is to be called common. No one wishes to be common or remain common. In every heart beats the desire to become remarkable. That gives us a cutting edge to achievement and self-confidence.

DEDICATION, SERVICE AND BROTHERHOOD

in our pursuit of,

MEDICI OMNES DUCIENS (MEDICINE CHANNEL FOR ALL).

Flickr Account

Mga Utol, brods and sis,

We now have a Pro Flickr account, we do not have a limit sa upload, upload as much as you want. I ended subscribing to it, dahil it is giving me a hard time organizing pictures, at sa upload limit na 100mb we need more. One of the problems before is that the memory available on free accounts is not enough, and we end up with several free accounts on different providers. Kung may collection kayo ng mga old pictures natin scan ninyo and upload it. Tapos name the picture (kung ano gusto nyo) then describe something about the picture. From Flickr account pwedeng I padala yan sa blog natin medyo lumalabas nga lang na putol ang isang side pero pwede, although it is still better to upload pictures individually sa Blog para maganda. Lahat tayo may access sa Flickr and we can get it, pass it on, blog it if we want using the login name at password. Look at the side bar nandyan ang login at password. It is also nicer to look at pag nag log in using the slide viewer. agp 107
