Medicus Internet History

In the late 90's when the Internet is just coming in its age. Ceasar Dayahan of PRIMA DUCIENS started an email at hotmail for Medicus. Few knew about it and only the "old timers" knew about sign in name and the password. So if you wanted to reach any brod or sis, there is not an existing place that you can look or search (email address would not come up on search parameters). I have tried to search for Medicus or Medici Omnes Duciens but nothing comes up on the Internet, we do not exist in the Eworld.

In 2000, a lot of our brothers and sisters were going to different places of the world and there is no way of reaching each other (I found it out myself). It is then that a yahoogroup at geocities was made and put up so that when you search, you will see something on the Internet to hopefully reach your brods and sis. One by one members found it and register. Since this site was working it was easily filled with pictures, and then there is not enough space (only 3 MB allowed) to put what we want to put in. The only way we can increase our memory availability is to pay, which we cannot afford. It was then that an MSN group account was created and then added as a secondary site.

In October 1, 2001 a website for Medici Omnes Duciens was started at yahoo geocities. The site was upped by the developer and was very impressive (all red). Thanks to a very creative brod who spent a long time putting it up. This site was then maintained by Medicus for Medicus, but our brod who was maintaining the site become so busy with his studies (women, beer) at the time (It is Robin BACOLOR who did it) that there is no time to update it. The site was neglected for a while because no one was able to update the site, not for lack of wanting but because nobody knows how.

Here is what Robin had to say while making the geocities site:
"naaalala ko dati 3rd year ako nyan sa med school (2001), ang gamit ko dati e dial up (56 kbps) minsan nga 32 lang na speed... kaya dinidiskartehan ko madaling araw para wala kang kaagaw sa linya... Dati yan 30-40 web pages tsaka MADUGO sobra... binawasan ko na, ang idea ko lang naman e malagay ang medicus sa google, or yahoo search engine... tsaka ma-i-link natin yung email groups..."

In 2005 members clamor for our own website with our own domain name. Medici Omnes Duciens Website was born, based in the Philippines. This is our main site and mainly used as a bulletin board, some properties of the site is continually added to adapt it to our needs. Unfortunately this main website disappeared late of 2007, MEDICUS lost its Ebulletin board. Since loosing our bulletin board, we lost a vital place of exchange between members. The Alumni during the 25th Anniversary celebration decided to have another forum started, and our Brod William Gerard Vergel de Dios search and established a new Medici Omnes Duciens Forum (this time it is free, with no danger of expiration).

Early of 2007 a Friendster account was made by our sis Maria Isabel LAGRIMAS of CONSEGUENZE FIDA batch, and lately I saw a Medici Omnes Duciens group at friendster in which the listed owner is doc_nancs. I could not see the profile but in my old emails, doc_nancs was Harold Nanquil.

All the old sites were still working, except for the medici omnes duciens website that went offline sometime in November of 2007, because our domain name expires (i tried to renew it but the registry would not allow me). Pictures can still be seen on the yahoo and MSN groups sites. Our yahoo group is in its 7Th year and still used for mass mailing to members, although a lot of the members were bouncing (members please update your emails, to members not yet a member of the yahoogroup, you can use the yahoo group button on the side bar and put your email address on it). You can access the sites on the links in this blog, located on the Medicus Links side bar.

Now we have a blog that was made after several bottles of beer and wine. Yes, we have our old sites and the main site before it disappears but some perceived this as static and only visits once in a while to leave a message, not an interacting site that we can explore and control ourselves. On this Blog, anyone who wanted to post something is very much welcome to do so, it was integrated and hooked to all our sites (yahoogroups, msngroup, friendster, flickr, youTube, pbbforumer, etc...). We have videos from youTube, photo stream from Fickr, link to a health blog, shoutout, etc.. Anything under the sun that can, in one way or another adds or contribute to Medicus and its members, and that even includes our own practical jokes. Just send an email to me and I will send the log in name and password. This Blog is dynamic for it is reshaping itself related to our needs by us, and hopefully utilized by members to its full capability.

i love medicus
